Considering your options: Postgraduate studies

Once you’ve got your first degree you might decide to take a higher qualification such as a postgraduate certificate, postgraduate diploma, masters degree or PHD.  Embarking on postgraduate study is a big investment of both time and money and there is a lot to think about.  The postgraduate premium means those with a postgraduate qualification often earn almost £200 000 more in their working lifetime!  With the introduction of the new postgraduate student loans coming up, postgraduate study will be an option for more students than ever.  It could be the next step to develop your career prospects or change career direction.

We asked recent postgraduate students what factors they think you should give real thought to before applying,  here are their top answers:

What do you want to study and why?

Do you have the money/funding?

Where do you want to study? (It could be abroad)

Is now the right time?

What do you want to do after postgraduate study?
